New York spot gold fell $34.20 Thursday, closing at $2,362.10. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 3.28 points to 573.64 while the TSX gold index dropped 9.09 points to 344.21. Most Canadian gold miners moved lower, some with gusto. Pan American Silver Corp. (PAAS) lost $1.74 to $29.61 on 2.06 million shares while Fortuna Mining Corp. (FVI) fell 33 cents to $6.42 on 2.32 million shares. Lundin Mining Corp. (LUN) did gain ground, adding 13 cents to $13.99 on 3.6 million shares.
John McConnell's Victoria Gold Corp. (VGCX) fell five cents to 62 cents on 1.03 million shares. The company's stock appears to have found a modicum of stability in the wake of the major failure in the leach pad of its Eagle mine in east-central Yukon. Victoria was as high as $22 in 2021, and despite a three-year slide it was above $7 in late June, just before word of the rock slide. The present depression reflects significant concern that it may not be able to reopen its mine.
