New York spot gold rose $22.70 Friday, closing at $2,386.10. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 5.69 points to 579.33 while the TSX gold index added 3.17 points to 347.38. Allied Gold Corp. (AAUC) was strong, as it added 12 cents to $3.27 on 328,000 shares, while Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) added 27 cents to $21.30 on 265,000 shares. Laggards were few, although Dynacor Group Inc. (DNG) did fall seven cents to $5.16 on 59,000 shares on word it has declared a 1.167-cent quarterly dividend -- unchanged from earlier quarters.
Alan Carter's Cabral Gold Inc. (CBR) rose one-half cent to 31 cents on 130,000 shares on word that it has drilled a six-metre interval grading 13.3 grams of gold per tonne at the Machichie NE target on its Cuiu Cuiu project in Brazil. The shallow hit was noted in a hole drilled 50 metres east of where a similarly shallow interval yielded 33 grams per tonne across 11 metres in late May. That earlier hit was juiced by a four-metre subinterval that ran 89.3 grams per tonne, while the latest hole got a lesser boost from a one-metre stretch that averaged 77.5 grams per tonne.
