New York spot gold fell $2.40 Monday, closing at $2,383.70. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 4.96 points to 574.37 while the TSX gold index rose 3.86 points to 351.24. Eldorado Gold Corp. (ELD) led a cadre of Canadian golds higher today, as it added 74 cents to $22.93 on 305,000 shares. Starcore International Mines Ltd. (SAM) slumped 5.5 cents to 8.5 cents on 1.05 million shares without offering an explanation why.
Frank Callaghan's Golden Cariboo Resources Ltd. (GCC) closed unchanged at 16 cents on 270,000 shares. The company has terminated its placement of 10 million shares at 25 cents, launched in May, well short of its intended target. A first tranche sale of 2.66 million shares completed in late June will now be the only tranche. Instead, the company will try again for the required cash by offering shares at a reduced 15-cent price. (The arithmetically challenged Golden Cariboo says it is offering one million shares to raise $1.5-million -- presumably 10 million shares are on offer.)
