New York spot gold fell $10.20 Friday, closing at $2,435.90. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 17.08 points to 555.56 while the TSX gold index dropped 6.92 points to 351.61. Most Canadian gold miners moved lower today, although Centerra Gold Inc. (CG) managed a 19-cent gain to $9.27 on 2.15 million shares. Newmont Corp. (NGT) was caught in the downdraft, falling $1.53 to $67.23 on 443,000 shares. Jaguar Mining Inc. (JAG) was another, as it lost 24 cents to $3.49 on 143,000 shares.
Renaud Adams's Iamgold Corp. (IMG) also lost ground, falling 33 cents to $5.36 on 2.57 million shares, but it had news. The company has declared its Cote mine in Ontario to be in commercial production, having achieved an average of 60 per cent of its nameplate throughput rate of 36,000 tonnes per day. Ramping up at Cote continues, and the company expects to achieve 90 per cent throughput by the end of the year.
