New York spot gold slipped $7.60 Tuesday, closing at $2,465.30. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 5.01 points to 545.66 while the TSX gold index added 3.85 points to 356.89. Hudbay Minerals Inc. (HBM) lost 14 cents to $9.98 on 5.33 million shares one the heels of its second quarter financials. Peter Kukielski, president and chief executive officer, was ebullient with the results, which he says will allow the company to achieve its 2024 production guidance and improve its cost guidance. Nevertheless, Hudbay logged a net loss of $20.4-million (U.S.).
John Lewins's K92 Mining Inc. (KNT) was strong, adding 37 cents to $7.44 on 1.64 million shares. There has been no news in a month but there will be today, as the company will release its second quarter financials after the close. Investors appear hopeful, as today's gain follows an 18-cent rise on 3.58 million shares yesterday. Mind you, K92 had a tough run of late, as its stock traded at $8.60 in mid-July. (Word that the company's Kainantu mine in Papua New Guinea had lower production because of a fatal accident triggered the subsequent slide.)
