New York spot gold fell $4.20 Monday, closing at $2,503.50. The TSX Venture Exchange added 6.62 points to 573.03 while the TSX gold index rose 5.27 points to 371.22. Artemis Gold Inc. (ARTG) helped lead a cadre of Canadian gold miners lower today, as it lost 15 cents to $12.81 on 436,000 shares. There were more gainers than decliners, with Galiano Gold Inc. (GAU) adding 16 cents to $2.08 on 365,000 shares and McEwen Mining Inc. (MUX) gaining $1.25 to $13.56 on 124,000 shares.
James Hedalen's Kobrea Exploration Corp. (KBX) jumped 9.5 cents to 59 cents on 97,000 shares on word it has picked up an option to acquire 100-per-cent interests in the Western Malargue properties in Argentina. The seven prospects span over 73,000 hectares of ground, which includes two mapped systems with copper, gold and molybdenum. The project hosts a dozen porphyry targets, but there has not been any previous drilling. Indeed, neighbouring properties were recently awarded their first ever drill permits.
