New York spot gold added $5.10 Monday, closing at $2,517.60. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 1.23 points to 579.26 while the TSX gold index dipped 1.27 points to 367.51. Several Canadian-listed gold miners moved higher today. Lundin Mining Corp. (LUN) added 32 cents to $14.28 on 4.55 million shares. Several others with a healthy copper component also gained ground, including Ero Copper Corp. (ERO), which added 54 cents to $29.44 on 354,000 shares, and Hudbay Minerals Inc. (HBM), which rose 10 cents to $11.15 on 2.54 million shares. Kazoos and party hats were not to be found among shareholders of Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (WDO), as it slipped 11 cents to $13.26 on 774,000 shares.
Dr. David Webb's Sixty North Gold Mining Ltd. (SXTY) applauded an intercept of the "rich gold-bearing A-zone" at its Mon property, 40 kilometres north of Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories. Unfortunately, there was little applause from the market, as Sixty North fell two cents to 15 cents on 772,000 shares on the news, which was accompanied by a brief halt. Assays are pending, but the crosscut exposed a one-metre-wide quartz vein containing visible gold and associated galena.
