New York spot gold rose $17.20 Thursday, closing at $2,521.30. The TSX Venture Exchange added 2.2 points to 567.92 while the TSX gold index added 5.54 points to 365.49. Most Canadian-listed gold miners strayed little from Wednesday's close. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) did add $1.29 to $110.75 on 886,000 shares and Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) kept it company, adding 54 cents to $27.43 on 4.83 million shares. Artemis Gold Inc. (ARTG) on the other hand lost 26 cents to $12.12 on 244,000 shares.
Scott Berdahl's Snowline Gold Corp. (SGD) fell 12 cents to $5.19 on 321,000 shares despite word of another promising gold hit in the Valley area of the company Rogue project, in the rugged terrain of east-central Yukon. One of two new holes returned 1.61 grams of gold per tonne over 435 metres, starting at a depth of 120 metres. A richer 150.5-metre interval averaging 2.39 grams per tonne lay sandwiched between lower grades, and a central 20-metre core ran 7.62 grams per tonne.
