New York spot gold fell $17.60 Friday, closing at $2,503.30. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 0.01 point to 567.91 while the TSX gold index lost 2.26 points to 363.23. Canadian-listed gold miners meandered listlessly today, one of the last Fridays of summer. Hudbay Minerals Inc. (HBM) did add 44 cents to $11 on 3.31 million shares and Orvana Minerals Corp. (ORV) rose 1.5 cents to 33.5 cents on 196,000 shares. GoGold Resources Inc. (GGD) was among those southbound today, as it slipped two cents to $1.19 on 834,000 shares.
David Kelley's Chakana Copper Corp. (PERU) lost one-half cent to three cents on 471,000 shares. This follows Thursday's one-half-cent drop to three cents on 776,0000 shares. The moves come on the heels of news that the company has drilled a 4.5-metre near-surface interval grading 0.25 gram of gold and 323.6 grams of silver per tonne at the La Joya prospect, on its expanded Soledad project in Peru. Much of the value sat within a 0.75-metre core zone that graded 0.45 gram of gold and 1,005 grams of silver per tonne. A second hole yielded 0.18 gram of gold and 20.5 grams of silver per tonne across five near-surface metres.
