New York spot gold rose $9.20 Tuesday, closing at $2,516.10. The TSX Venture Exchange added 3.94 points to 552.9 while the TSX gold index added 5.62 points to 354.80. Most Canadian-listed gold miners strayed little from Monday's closes, but a few were more energetic. Centamin PLC (CEE) jumped 50 cents to $2.63 on 2.17 million shares on word of a friendly takeover by AngloGold Ashanti PLC. Lundin Mining Corp. (LUN) was silent, but it fell four cents to $11.49 on 4.68 million shares.
Scott Berdahl's Snowline Gold Corp. (SGD) jumped 21 cents to $5.14 on 260,000 shares on the heels of another eyebrow raiser from drilling at its Valley deposit, on the Rogue property in Yukon. The headline hit returned a 244.9-metre surface-based hit that graded 4.05 grams of gold per tonne, with a 101-metre near-surface subinterval managing 5.99 grams per tonne. The hit was from one of three new holes. A second mustered 0.91 gram per tonne across 485 metres with a 177-metre midsection grading 1.51 grams per tonne. The third hole was uninspiring, with 0.69 gram of gold per tonne across 290 metres.
