New York spot gold rose $31.20 Tuesday, closing at $2,658.70. The TSX Venture Exchange added 8.91 points to 597.11 while the TSX gold index rose 4.81 points to 381.17. Most Canadian gold miners were strong today. Capstone Copper Corp. (CS) rose 69 cents to $10.49 on 11 million shares and Endeavour Silver Corp. (EDR) kept it company with a 52-cent gain to $5.41 on 2.02 million shares. Serabi Gold PLC (SBI) on the other hand fell 14 cents to $1.59 on 25,000 shares.
Frank Callaghan's Golden Cariboo Resources Ltd. (GCC) lost two cents to 20 cents on 662,000 shares on word it has drilled a 204.85-metre surface-based interval grading 0.8 gram of gold per tonne in an extension of the recently discovered Halo zone at its Quesnelle project in central British Columbia. The hit included a 143.85-metre midsection that graded 1.01 grams per tonne. Much of the gold sat in high-grade subintervals. While the company did not provide the details, it said the capped grades were roughly half the reported grades, using a 10-gram-per-tonne cap.
