by Stockwatch Business Reporter

New York spot gold fell $8.60 Friday, closing at $2,734.80. The TSX Venture Exchange added 2.52 points to 603.95 while the TSX gold index fell 3.49 points to 377.14. New Gold Inc. (NGD) helped lead the advance today, as it added three cents to $3.86 on 3.52 million shares. Paul Tomory's Centerra Gold Corp. (CG) reported "continued strong cash flow from operations" and "consistent operating performance" during its third quarter, and so it is declaring a seven-cent-per-share quarterly dividend, unchanged from previous quarters. Investors, perhaps banking on a dividend boost given bullion's recent run, sent Centerra down 74 cents to $9.10 on 4.37 million shares today.

Eldorado Gold Corp. (ELD) also struggled on word of its third quarter results. Yes, revenue was up from a year ago and so was the company's cash flow from operations. Net income was accordingly strong, but Eldorado nevertheless fell $1.41 to $22.81 on 1.32 million shares today. The company, you see, is "tightening its 2024 guidance" -- a move that has strangled the upper portion of the original forecast. Eldorado had predicted between 505,000 and 555,000 ounces this year; now it is calling for between 505,000 and 530,000 ounces.
