New York spot gold lost -- whoa! -- $62.90 Monday, closing at $2,620.80. The TSX Venture Exchange tracked lower with bullion, dropping 7.85 points to 601.39 while the TSX gold index lost a whopping 22.41 points to 347.42. And so, most gold miners listed in Canada fell hard today. Iamgold Corp. (IMG) shed 63 cents to $7.26 on 4.96 million shares while Jaguar Mining Inc. (JAG) slid 55 cents to $3.51 on 653,000 shares. On the exploration side, New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) found a new four-year low, ending the day off 19 cents to $2.86 on 453,000 shares.
Andrew Chubb's Awale Resources Ltd. (ARIC) added 1.5 cents to 42 cents on 1.14 million shares on word it has drilled a 59-metre zone averaging 14.7 grams of gold per tonne in the Charger zone of its Odienne project in northwestern Ivory Coast. The interval included a 21-metre stretch that averaged 22.4 grams per tonne. The headline hit was from one of the last four holes drilled into the Charger zone. Two of the three other holes were duds, while the third yielded 13.3 grams of gold per tonne across eight metres.
