New York spot gold rose $19.50 to close at $2,669.10. The TSX Venture Exchange added 2.86 points to 599.11, while the TSX gold index rose 3.24 points to 363.31. After three years of assay encouragement and now the promise of a coming resource estimate and dream sheet, one might think that New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) would be a stock to watch. Well it is, but the viewing has taken on a sense of the macabre. Its stock found another new multiyear low today -- $2.10 -- but it ended the day up two cents to $2.30 on 1.89 million shares. Centerra Gold Inc. (CG) was strong on the other hand, adding 26 cents to $8.74 on 960,000 shares.

Sean Roosen's Osisko Development Corp. (ODV) leapt 65 cents to $2.69 on 434,000 shares on word it has received permits from the British Columbia government for its Cariboo gold project in central British Columbia. This, the company enthuses, "marks an important milestone in enabling the company to move forward with the construction and operation of the underground Cariboo gold project" -- not to be confused with the actual start of construction or operation.
