New York spot gold rose $42.70 to close at $2,711.40. The TSX Venture Exchange added 7.06 points to 606.17 while the TSX gold index added 2.68 points to 365.99. There were more ups than downs today among Canadian gold miners. Artemis Gold Inc. (AYA) was strong, adding $1.03 to $14.78 on 435,000 shares. Capstone Copper Corp. (CS) was among those in retreat, as it slipped 25 cents to $10.04 on 3.6 million shares.
Cal Everett and Jon Gilligan's Liberty Gold Corp. (LGD) jumped 2.5 cents to 32 cents on 316,000 shares. The company, which received a prefeasibility study of its Black Pine gold project in Idaho in early October, is now contemplating its multimillion-dollar next step -- feasibility for the project and its reserve of nearly 300 million tonnes grading 0.32 gram of gold per tonne, about 3.1 million ounces of gold.
