New York spot gold fell $18.90 to close at $2,630.50 on Thursday, while the TSX Venture Exchange dropped 9.21 points to 608.29 and the TSX gold index lost 3.09 points to 358.50. Most gold miners listed in Canada moved lower today. Barrick Gold Corp. (SOMA) did so with vigour, dropping 66 cents to $23.79 on 8.99 million shares, while Equinox Gold Corp. (EQX) shed 19 cents to $8.25 on 1.23 million shares. Aya Gold & Silver Inc. (AYA) was among those northbound today. It added 18 cents to $13.40 on 2.44 million shares.
Marco Roque's Cassiar Gold Corp. (GLDC) closed unchanged at 21 cents on 60,000 shares on word it has drilled a 156.1-metre interval grading 0.53 gram of gold per tonne from surface. The intercept came from one of nine new holes completed at its Taurus deposit, on the Cassiar property in Northern British Columbia. The headline hit occurred in one of four holes drilled into the Taurus West area. Two of the other three also delivered noteworthy results, including one that ran 0.62 gram per tonne across 86.6 near-surface metres.
