Most gold miners listed in Canada advanced today. Endeavour Mining PLC (EDV) was strong, as it rose $1.78 to $28.79 on 1.18 million shares. SSR Mining Inc. (SSRM) also did well, gaining 82 cents to $11.52 on two million shares. Jaguar Mining Inc. (JAG), which traded above $3.80 a week ago, lost ground for the sixth day in succession early on but closed up three cents to $2.63 on 773,000 shares. The big hit came Monday, when Jaguar lost 98 cents on word of a slide in a tailings pile at its Turmalina mine in Brazil.
Cynthia Le Sueur-Aquin's Laurion Mineral Exploration Inc. (LME) jumped 3.5 cents to 44 cents on 274,000 shares on word it has drilled a 1.2-metre interval grading 17.47 grams of gold per tonne at its Ishkoday project, 220 kilometres northeast of Thunder Bay in Northwestern Ontario. Most of the gold sat within a 0.5-metre portion that averaged 37.7 grams per tonne, leaving the other 0.7 metre with just three grams per tonne. That lesser grade was typical of the intercepts in the three other new holes today, which included hits of 2.08 grams per tonne across 3.5 metres and 2.78 grams per tonne over 0.6 metre.
