New York spot gold rose $5.10 to close at $2,652.60 on Monday while the TSX Venture Exchange lost 6.59 points to 601.25 and the TSX gold index dropped 2.97 points to 353.58. Most gold miners with Canadian listings tracked lower with bullion today. B2Gold Corp. (BTO) fell seven cents to $3.68 on 4.62 million shares without supporting news. Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) was also down, falling 59 cents to $23.31 on 7.91 million shares on word that its Loulo-Gounkoto operation in Mali is being hampered by the Malian government such that Barrick says it may be "compelled to suspend operations."

Scott Berdahl's Snowline Gold Corp. (SGD) lost 11 cents to $5 on 179,000 shares as it applauded the good fortune of a neighbour near its Rogue project in east-central Yukon. Fireweed Metals Corp. (FWZ: $1.47), which is pursuing critical minerals at its Mactung tungsten project about 35 kilometres southeast of Rogue, will be getting just over $35-million in cash from government sources. Just under $13-million comes from the Canadian government for critical minerals infrastructure, while just over $22-million comes from the United States Department of Defense to aid development of Mactung toward a final investment decision.
