New York spot gold fell $58.10 to close at $2,588.20 on Wednesday while the TSX Venture Exchange slid 14.94 points to 582.31 and the TSX gold index dropped 13.58 points to 338.59. Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) nevertheless leapt $1.94 to $29.05 on 1.48 million shares on word it has resumed work at its El Limon-Guajes operation on the Morales property in Mexico. Work was halted after three workers died underground from carbon monoxide poisoning. Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) was among those southbound today, as it fell 87 cents to $22.38 on 8.18 million shares.
Collin Kettell's New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) lost five cents to $2.22 on 766,000 shares on word it has shuffled its board. Mr. Kettell, a company founder and chief executive officer, made a rare promotional appearance to cheer on a new chairman and several other board appointments. In doing so, he also managed to bury the lede -- Denis Laviolette, the company's other founder and until now its president, has left the company.
