New York spot gold rose $25.90 to close at $2,620.60 on Friday while the TSX Venture Exchange rose 4.18 points to 586.77 and the TSX gold index added 4.81 points to 340.54. Most Canadian gold miners moved higher today, although one that did not was Serabi Gold PLC (SBI), which slid 27 cents to $2.14 on 76,000 shares. Those tagging along with bullion included Kinross Gold Corp. (K), which added 22 cents to $13.28 on 11.45 million shares, and New Found Gold Corp. (NFG), which added seven cents to $2.34 on 598,000 shares.

Newmont Corp. (NGT), a $40 stock in February that rallied to $81.16 in mid-October, added $1.88 to $55.12 on 706,000 shares today. The company continues to tidy up its stock drawer and project roster, having already spent much of 2024 selling non-core assets -- a process that could generate double the $2-billion (U.S.) in cash that it was initially hoping for.
