New York spot gold fell $16.90 to close at $2,616.30 on Friday while the TSX Venture Exchange rose 1.61 points to 597.87 and the TSX gold index dropped 0.76 point to 341.15. Most Canadian gold miners moved lethargically today. Dundee Corp. (DC.A) dipped four cents to $1.43 on 179,000 shares while Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) rose five cents to $22.60 on 4.53 million shares.

News was sparse today -- today not only being a Friday, but a lone session sandwiched between Boxing Day and the end-of-the-year weekend. One company with a snippet top report was Charles MaLette and Patrick Cruickshank's Nine Mile Metals Ltd. (NINE). Nine Mile lost one-half cent to 1.5 cents on 91,000 shares following word it has closed the sale of 4.57 million flow-through shares at 3.5 cents apiece, raising $160,000. The cash, say Mr. MaLette, president, and Mr. Cruickshank, chief executive officer, is for work on the company's Wedge and California Lake properties, southwest of Bathurst in northeastern New Brunswick.
