New York spot gold rose $17.50 to close at $2,624.10 on a New Year's Eve Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange ended 2024 by adding 4.44 points to 597.84 while the TSX gold index rose 2.58 points to 336.92. Most Canadian gold miners advanced today. China Gold International Resources Corp. (CGG) did so with gusto, adding 54 cents to $7.45 on 13,000 shares, while Silvercorp Metals Inc. (SVM) added 12 cents to $4.32 on 638,000 shares. Among those drifting lower today was First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (FM), which lost 11 cents to $18.53 on 1.96 million shares.
Steven Dean's Artemis Gold Inc. (ARTG) managed a 25-cent gain to $13.75 on 165,000 shares despite having some bad news today. (If one has disappointment to share, New Year's Eve is a great day to hide it away in plain view.) Mr. Dean, chairman and chief executive officer, said that Artemis "has experienced unexpected delays with the configuration of and communication within the process control network, and encountered constrained vendor availability during the holiday season" at its Blackwater mine in central British Columbia.
