New York spot gold rose $5.80 to close at $2,707.80 Monday as the TSX Venture Exchange added 2.39 points to 618.73 and the TSX gold index rose 1.37 points to 367.02. Most Canadian gold miners advanced today, although most with just modest moves. Among the busier traders were Calibre Mining Corp. (CXB), which added seven cents to $2.35 on 5.73 million shares, and GoGold Resources Inc. (GGD), which rose four cents to $1.42 on 2.11 million shares. Americas Gold and Silver Corp. (USA) stumbled two cents lower to 70 cents on 391,000 shares despite a month-long silence.

Collin Kettell and Denis Laviolette's New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) rose three cents to $2.52 on 276,000 shares as it rode a second wave of its management shuffle. In mid-December, the company appointed Paul Huet as chairman and added William Hayden and Melissa Render as directors, while bidding adieu to Ray Threlkeld, Doug Hurst and Mr. Laviolette. Mr. Laviolette, a company cofounder who also turned over the role of president to Ms. Render, is now off pursuing other opportunities, as promoters are wont to say.
