New York spot gold took a breather, dipping $11 to close at $2,855.40 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 2.44 points to 639.51 while the TSX gold index added 0.73 point to 408.09. Novagold Resources Inc. (NG) helped some Canadian-listed gold miners move northward, as it added 14 cents to $4.75 on 882,000 shares. There were others, but most had a copper kicker, such as Hudbay Minerals Inc. (HBM), which added 21 cents to $12.84 on 3.63 million shares.
George Burns's Eldorado Gold Corp. (ELD) slumped $2.60 to $20.02 on 2.28 million shares on word after yesterday's close that -- oh, where to start: First, Eldorado said that it expects to produce between 460,000 and 500,000 ounces of gold this year. A year ago, it had projected between 545,000 and 595,000 ounces for 2025. The drop is because of delays in production at the new Skouries mine in Greece, and modest declines at Olympias in Greece and Kisladag in Turkey.
