Most gold miners listed in Canada moved higher with bullion -- especially those with a significant connection to copper. Hudbay Minerals Inc. (TKO) was strong, as it added 15 cents to $3 on 1.43 million shares.
One gold miner caught the market's ire. McEwen Mining Inc. (MUX) slid $1.88 to $10.52 on 503,000 shares today on word that it arranged an $85-million (U.S.) offering of notes late yesterday -- then boosted the sale to $95-million (U.S.) early today as it set the price. The placement, to "persons reasonably believed to be qualified institutional buyers," carries a conversion price of $11.25 (U.S.) per share, a premium of 30 per cent over yesterday's close, the company cheers.
