New York spot gold rose $25.40 to $2,929.20 on Thursday, while the TSX Venture Exchange added 6.30 points to 647.92 and the TSX gold index added 1.68 points to 419.07. Most Canadian gold miners stayed close to home today, but one, Kinross Gold Corp. (K) set off on a brisk southward hike. Kinross revealed its fourth quarter results late yesterday and said it would pay a dividend of three U.S. cents, unchanged from previous quarters. Investors had expected better news, so Kinross slid $1.18 to $16.21 on 10.16 million shares today.
Keith Anderson's Golden Spike Resources Corp. (GLDS) lost one-half cent to four cents on 271,000 shares on assays from a 2024 drill program at its Gregory River volcanogenic massive sulphide project in northwestern Newfoundland. The 10-hole program tested three areas, with half of the tests in the Steep Brook area. The best of the Steep Brook holes returned 0.04 gram of gold per tonne and 0.33 per cent copper across an 11.15-metre interval.
