New York spot gold rose $35.90 to $2,893.10 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 19.4 points to 595.24 while the TSX gold index lost 0.47 point to 399.7. Most Canadian listed precious metals miners advanced today. Aya Gold & Silver Inc. (AYA) added 24 cents to $11.72 on 1.51 million shares while Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) rose 31 cents to $31.90 on 380,000 shares. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (IVN), $17.19 in mid-February, had another down day today, dropping $1.05 to $12.68 on 6.37 million shares.

Gareth Thomas's Westhaven Gold Corp. (WHN) jumped 1.5 cents to 15 cents on 351,000 shares on word it has updated its preliminary economic assessment of the Shovelnose gold project, just south of Merritt in southwestern British Columbia. Shovelnose hosts 3.44 million tonnes indicated at 6.13 grams of gold and 32.3 grams of silver per tonne, plus 2.3 million tonnes inferred at 3.67 grams of gold and 25.2 grams of silver per tonne. In all, the resource lists nearly 950,000 ounces of gold and over 5.4 million ounces of silver across three zones.
