New York spot gold rose $3.40 to $2,920.10 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 13.68 points to 607.75 while the TSX gold index added 13.68 points to 414.15. Most Canadian listed precious metals miners gained ground today. Lundin Gold Corp. (LUG) was strong, adding $2.27 to $40.88 on 641,000 shares. So was Oceanagold Corp. (OGC), which gained 26 cents to $4.09 on 5.77 million shares. Serabi Gold PLC (SBI), which had been strong of late, was not today. It lost 20 cents to $2.93 on 85,000 shares.
Elaine Ellingham's Omai Gold Mines Corp. (OMI) was back in the news today with assays from the Wenot deposit on its Omai project in Guyana. The headline hit returned 5.21 grams of gold per tonne across 19.3 metres, aided by a 3.6-metre stretch with 11.75 grams per tonne and a 4.6-metre zone grading 11.44 grams per tonne. (The other 11.1 metres therefore averaged just 0.67 gram of gold per tonne.)
