New York spot gold fell $2.30 to $2,909.30 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 9.06 points to 614.03 while the TSX gold index added 6.05 points to 414.18. Most gold miners listed in Canada gained altitude today. Fortuna Mining Corp. (FVI) rose 44 cents to $7.06 on 3.01 million shares, while Avino Silver & Gold Mines Ltd. (ASM) added nine cents to $1.97 on 567,000 shares. Serabi Gold PLC (SBI) continued its recent slump, dropping another two cents to $2.70 on 30,000 shares. It had been as high as $3.40 late last month.
Rick Zimmer and Jim Currie's Ascot Resources Ltd. (AOT) closed unchanged at 10.5 cents on 6.75 million shares. Two weeks ago, Ascot said it had arranged to sell between $60-million and $65-million of shares at 11.5 cents apiece. On Monday, the company tweaked the placement by adding a flow-through component, with about $20-million of the cash to come from flow-through shares priced at 14.03 cents per share. The other $40-million to $45-million would come from regular shares, still priced at 11.5 cents per share.
