New York spot gold rose $52.30 to $2,986.20 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange dipped 0.81 point to 613.17 while the TSX gold index leapt 12.18 points to 430.19. Most gold miners with Canadian listings advanced today. New Gold Inc. (NGD) added 23 cents to $4.66 on 3.99 million shares while SSR Mining Inc. (SSRM) gained 70 cents to $15.43 on 1.08 million shares. Stragglers were few in number and their drops were slight. One, Thor Explorations Ltd. (THX), fell one cent to 39 cents on 144,000 shares.
Collin Kettell and Paul Matysek's Nevada King Gold Corp. (NKG), up 2.5 cents to 27 cents on 570,000 shares, has drilled a 90-metre near-surface interval grading 2.44 grams of gold and 55.8 grams of silver per tonne at its Atlanta Gold Mine project in east-central Nevada. A second hole among the 12 new tests revealed today hit a 60-metre zone, also near surface, which averaged 3.17 grams of gold and 41.4 grams of silver per tonne.
