New York spot gold broke $3,000 today but ended Friday down $4.10 to $2,984.50. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 7.96 points to 621.13 while the TSX gold index rose two points to 432.19. Most gold miners with Canadian listings moved northward today. Iamgold Corp. (IMG) added 13 cents to $8.46 on 3.35 million shares. Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) was buoyant, adding $1.01 to $35.12 on 557,000 shares. Endeavour Mining PLC (EDV) was among those losing ground today, as it fell 56 cents to $31.54 on 638,000 shares.

Much of the gold sat within a 10-metre stretch that averaged 32.2 grams per tonne, leaving the remnant seven metres with a not inconsequential 2.33 grams per tonne -- especially since this was a near-surface hit.
