New York spot gold managed a bounce early Tuesday, but it ended the day down $1.10 to $2,981.10. Global stock markets also bounced upward -- then collapsed when investors realized that the feline was no longer purring. The Dow Jones Index fell 320 points and TSX Venture Exchange tagged along for the ride, dropping 5.66 points to 561.76. The TSX gold index also moved lower, dropping 1.43 points to 413.45. Some gold miners listed in Canada gained ground today. Iamgold Corp. (IMG) was among them, as it rose 19 cents to $8.26 on 4.77 million shares. SSR Mining Inc. (SSRM) also did well, as it added 17 cents to $13.21 on 746,000 shares.
Andrew Chubb's Awale Resources Ltd. (ARIC) lost 1.5 cents to 44.5 cents on 76,000 shares on word it has drilled a 45-metre zone grading 1.4 grams of gold and 1.5 grams of silver per tonne plus 0.41 per cent copper and 163 parts per million molybdenum in the BBM zone at its Odienne project in Ivory Coast. The hit was among the assays from the last six holes drilled recently at BBM.
