New York spot gold resumed its northward drive, adding $25.10 to $3,343.40 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 0.64 point to 653.18 while the TSX gold index edged 2.92 points higher to 475.57. Jaguar Mining Inc. (JAG) jumped 35 cents to $3.25 on 802,000 shares on word that Eric Sprott bought one million shares at $2.80 apiece on Friday. Novagold Resources Inc. (NG) did not fare as well, as it lost 13 cents to $6.02 on 1.03 million shares.
Rob Pease and Cal Everett's Liberty Gold Corp. (LGD), unchanged at 29.5 cents on 2.84 million shares, is going through the change -- or at least it will be doing so in mid-June. Mr. Everett, the company's president and chief executive officer for the past eight years, will be retiring. Or at least he will be slowing down, as he intends to become a director of Specialty American Metals Inc., a company being spun off from Liberty. Replacing Mr. Everett in the company's corner office will be Dr. Jon Gilligan, currently Liberty's chief operating officer.
