New York spot gold retreated $70.30 to $3,178.90 on Wednesday, continuing the decline that began in late April, just as bullion touched the $3,500 (U.S.) mark. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 7.17 points to 658.65 while the TSX gold index -- the one that topped 510 points in mid-April -- fell another 10.10 points to 440.25. Avino Silver & Gold Mines Ltd. (ASM) fell 13 cents to $3.23 on 1.15 million shares today while New Gold Inc. (NGD) lost 15 cents to $5.24 on 3.55 million shares.
Randy Turner's Independence Gold Corp. (IGO) lost one cent to 15 cents on 157,000 shares on word it has resumed drilling at its 3Ts project, 185 kilometres southwest of Prince George in central British Columbia. The drilling began last fall, then took a holiday break after 12 holes spanning 3,222 metres had been completed. The work resumed in January, and the full 10,000-metre program was completed by early April.
