New York spot had a strong day, adding $61.80 to $3,290.20 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 19.90 points to 692.74 while the TSX gold index jumped 20.94 points to 471.25. Most gold miners listed in Canada moved sharply higher today. Oceanagold Corp. (OGC) added 20 cents to $5.79 on four million shares while Eldorado Gold Corp. (ELD) added $1.91 to $26.86 on 660,000 shares. Both moved in silence, but Calibre Mining Corp. (CXB) added 22 cents to $3.11 on 11.74 million shares on news -- if a lengthy yawn about environmental stewardship, social responsibility, governance and ethics counts as news.
Scott Berdahl's Snowline Gold Corp. (SGD) surged 58 cents to $7.60 on 326,000 shares on word it has begun an energetic exploration season at its Rogue, Cynthia and Einarson projects in east-central Yukon. Rogue -- specifically its Valley deposit -- will be the focus of the effort, the company says, although it muddies the exact metre counts across its enthusiastic news. Suffice it to say there will be plenty of drilling.
