New York spot gold added $23.70 to $3,313.90 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 14.08 points to 678.68 while the TSX gold index rose 5.14 points to 476.78. Most gold miners listed in Canada gained ground today. Lundin Gold Inc. (LUG) jumped $2.49 to $62.72 on 1.8 million shares and Americas Gold and Silver Corp. (USA) rose three cents to 82 cents on 3.58 million shares. Novagold Resources Inc. (NG) fell 18 cents to $4.96 on 1.33 million shares.
Alan Carter's Cabral Gold Inc. (CBR) rose one-half cent to 41 cents on 770,000 shares on word it has drilled a 49-metre near-surface interval grading two grams of gold per tonne at its Cuiu Cuiu project in Brazil. Multiple higher-grade zones provided the gold, including a seven-metre subinterval in the midsection of the interval that ran 9.53 grams per tonne. Ten other holes with new assays also showed near-surface gold, with lesser grades and narrower intervals.
