New York spot gold ended the week on a good note, adding $65.40 to $3,355.10 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 8.11 points to 686.66 while the TSX gold index gained 7.47 points to 480.87. Most gold miners listed in Canada moved northward, although most kept their Thursday campsites in view. Orezone Gold Corp. (ORE) was among the more adventurous, as it journeyed four cents higher to $1.20 on 2.27 million shares. Eskay Mining Corp. (ESK) also had the wanderlust -- just not in a good way -- as it lost 2.5 cents to 20 cents on 440,000 shares.
West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. (WRLG), which added six cents to 84 cents on 5.74 million shares Thursday on word it is reopening its Madsen mine near Red Lake, rose another cent to 85 cents on 3.23 million shares today. The company's stock has been churning in the market like a dairy farmer on steroids since last fall, but the cheese is still going for the same 80-odd cents that it did back then. Over 407 million shares have traded since then at an average of 65 cents apiece -- more than had previously traded since the company launched as West Red Lake at the end of 2022, although at essentially the same average price.
