New York spot gold began a new week by dropping $15.80 to $3,341.10 on the last Monday of May. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 11.11 points to 697.77 while the TSX gold index gained 1.30 points to 482.17. Most gold miners listed in Canada moved northward, a few with bullish vigour. Thor Explorations Ltd. (THX) added six cents to 73 cents on 1.32 million shares, while Silvercorp Metals Inc. (SVM) added 24 cents to $5.34 on 1.17 million shares. Allied Gold Corp. (AAUC), which fell 56 cents to $18.56 on 167,000 shares, led the retreat.
Jordan Black's Ramp Metals Inc. (RAMP) jumped 12 cents to $1.69 on 609,000 shares on word that the $2.8-million placement it launched early this month has closed oversubscribed. The company sold 1.48 million charity flow-through shares at $2.07 and 295,000 regular shares at $1.35 for $3.07-million. The cash, cheers Mr. Black, chief executive officer, is for "critical mineral exploration" at the Rottenstone SW project in Saskatchewan.
