New York spot gold regained $30.40 to $3,316.80 on Thursday, while the TSX Venture Exchange lost 5.52 points to 696.88 and the TSX gold index slipped 1.95 points to 480.60. Most gold miners listed in Canada strayed little from yesterday's closes, but a few were more rambunctious. One, Majestic Gold Corp. (MJS), got to 17 cents, ending the day up one-half cent to 15 cents on 5.9 million shares without benefit of recent news. New Found Gold Corp. (NFG), on the other hand, did have news early yesterday and it kept its rally alive today, adding eight cents to $2.12 on 1.29 million shares.
Rauno Perttu's Provenance Gold Corp. (PAU) has completed its first infill and stepout drill holes at the Eldorado project in eastern Oregon. Two holes are complete with samples off to the lab. Both were apparently modest stepouts -- one drilled 40 metres downdip of previous drilling and the other was a 50-metre lateral stepout. A third hole is under way, apparently an infill test aimed to further evaluate the northwestern extension and assess its grade continuity.
