New York spot gold lost $28.90 to $3,288.30 on Friday, while the TSX Venture Exchange lost 2.48 points to 694.40 and the TSX gold index fell 0.92 point to 479.68. Gold miners listed in Canada were a mixed lot today. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) fell $1.41 to $161.77 on 3.95 million shares while wildfire-plagued Hudbay Minerals Inc. (HBM) dropped 26 cents to $12.23 on 3.67 million shares. Orezone Gold Corp. (ORE) bucked the trend, adding four cents to $1.27 on 2.07 million shares, and so did Lundin Gold Corp. (LUG), which added $1.62 to $66.31 on 9.06 million shares.
Matthew Wilcox's Robex Resources Inc. (RBX) jumped 10 cents to $3.37 on 257,000 shares on word it has completed an initial public offering on the Australian Securities Exchange, selling 38.59 million shares at about $2.73 apiece, raking in $105-million. The cash raised will go toward the company's Kiniero project in Guinea, where it is looking to build a mine.
