New York spot gold rose $5.50 Monday, ending the afternoon at $3,378.80. The TSX Venture Exchange leapt 22.19 points to 783.68 while the TSX gold index soared -- woah! -- 40.88 points to 552.75. Oh, where to start? Perhaps with an outlier: Dundee Precious Metals Inc. (DPM) fell 36 cents to $23.62 on 1.93 million shares, bucking a trend led by Kinross Gold Corp. (K), which soared $2.68 to $25.03 on 17.14 million shares.
Jorge Ganoza's Fortuna Mining Corp. (FVI) leapt 76 cents to $9.58 on 2.38 million shares on a new resource estimate for Diamba Sud in Senegal. The company now lists the project with 14.15 million tonnes indicated at 1.59 grams of gold per tonne across five deposits, with a further 6.17 million tonnes inferred at 1.44 grams per tonne across seven deposits. Diamba Sud is now credited with just over one million ounces of gold.
None of the deposits dominate: There are just short of 300,000 ounces of gold at Area D, in the northeastern corner of the project, nearly all of them indicated, while all 194,000 ounces at Southern Arc are inferred. The Area A and Karakara deposits each have just under 200,000 ounces, with lesser amounts present at Western Splay, Kassassoko and Moungoundi, all at the southwestern end of the project.
