New York spot gold rose $5.20 Tuesday, pausing ever so briefly in the afternoon at $3,346.90. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 4.64 points to 788.60 while the TSX gold index added 3.73 points to 569.34. Barrick Mining Corp. (ABX) had a good day, adding 93 cents to $32.39 on 7.9 million shares and reversing Monday's 76-cent decline. Mind you, Barrick had a good run over the five days previous to that, adding nearly $3.

A few Canadian-listed gold miners made appreciable moves today, just not all in the desired direction. Aris Mining Corp. (ARIS) slid 27 cents to $9.60 on 23.38 million shares. There was no news to account for the slump -- other than a 15.75-million-share before-the-open cross by BMO Nesbitt Burns at $9.15 per share. Aris opened unchanged at $9.75 but quickly slid southward in feverish small trades as retail investors looked for their own bargain. Late in the day, Aris said that the cross was a sale by Mubadala Investment Co. of the shares it acquired a year ago in exchange for the Solo Norte project.
