New York spot gold rose $1.10 Friday, sitting at $3,335.50 at the pause. The TSX Venture Exchange added 10.96 points to 790.77 while the TSX gold index rose 5.49 points to 569.03. Most Canadian-listed gold miners moved higher today. K92 Mining Inc. (KNT) added 40 cents to $15.16 on 2.25 million shares today and New Gold Inc. (NGD) kept it company, rising 15 cents to $7.23 on 3.31 million shares. West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. (WRLG), on the other hand, dropped two cents to 86 cents on 1.22 million shares.
Yesterday, New Found Gold Corp. (NFG: $2.20) said it was suspending work using heavier equipment -- the kind that belches smoke and can throw off sparks -- at its Queensway project in north-central Newfoundland, citing the extreme fire situation. Today, it was joined on the sidelines by Garett Macdonald's Maritime Resources Corp. (MAE), which has temporarily suspended construction at its Hammerdown project in the Baie Verte area of northwestern Newfoundland.
