New York spot gold fell $9.60 Thursday, nodding off for a one-hour nap at $3,336.70. The TSX Venture Exchange jumped 18.72 points to 786.33, while the TSX gold index rose 12.76 points to 583.24. Canadian gold miners sailed a sea of green today -- other than Robex Resources Inc. (RBX), which dipped 11 cents to $3.20 on 85,000 shares. Iamgold Corp. (IMG) was strong again today, adding 45 cents to $11.78 on 4.57 million shares. Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (WDO) also did well, gaining 53 cents to $16.83 on 1.06 million shares.
Marcio Fonseca's GR Silver Mining Ltd. (GRSL) rose one-half cent to 16.5 cents on 2.59 million shares on word it has drilled wide silver intercepts in the San Marcial area of its Plomosas project in Sinaloa, Mexico. The assays, from two more holes completed in the company's 12-hole program, showed a 19.9-metre near-surface hit in the Parallel Breccia zone that averaged 206 grams of silver and 0.1 gram of gold per tonne, along with slight amounts of lead and zinc.
