New York spot gold leapt $33.10 Friday, ending the week at $3,370.40. Not really: A new week began within minutes -- 60 to be precise -- as bullion never sleeps. Mind you, most of the newsmaking world does nod off for the weekend, so major price moves are rare during the off-hours. The TSX Venture Exchange surged 17.28 points to 803.61 today while the TSX gold index added 5.35 points to 588.44. Most Canadian gold miners gained ground today, although Thor Explorations Ltd. (THX) fell one cent to 94 cents on 1.42 million shares.
Speaking of news, there was not much today -- it being a summer Friday and all -- but a few hardy promoters did sally forth, press releases in hand. Elmer Stewart's Copper Fox Metals Inc. (CUU) rose one cent to 27 cents on 264,000 shares on word that it has completed a geophysical survey across its Eaglehead porphyry project in northwestern British Columbia. Preliminary results support the company's interpretation that the mineralization outlined by drilling represents the upper portion of a porphyry system.
