New York spot gold -- there seems no end to this -- rose another $18.10 on Tuesday, reaching $3,763.80 at the afternoon pause. The TSX Venture Exchange tagged along early but closed 9.48 points lower, at 912.85, while the TSX gold index added 2.32 points to 716.50. Most Canadian miners were up smartly this morning, but many ended the day in the red. Orosur Mining Inc. (OMI) did not -- it kept soaring, ending the day up 13 cents to 58 cents on 1.11 million shares. Galiano Gold Inc. (GAU), on the other hand, lost 40 cents to $3.07 on 3.1 million shares traded on the TSX.
With gold bugs eagerly buying, gold promoters were willing sellers. One was selling more stock: Shane Williams's West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. (WRLG) was unchanged today at $1.03 on 4.09 million shares on word that it has closed its oversubscribed and upsized public offering. The company sold 37.53 million regular shares at 95 cents and 3.76 million charity flow-through shares at $1.33, raising $40.65-million. The offering began in mid-September, with the company seeking $30-million, but it boosted the placement a day later to $36-million.
