New York spot gold rose $17.20 to $4,472.70 before its afternoon pause. The TSX Venture Exchange added 2.6 points to 1,038.78 while the TSX gold index rose 5.44 points to 883.50. A few Canadian gold miners carried on northward today. Robex Resources Inc. (RBX) added 31.5 cents to $5.615 on 404,000 shares today, while Franco-Nevada Corp. (FNV) added $11.17 to $312.64 on 672,000 shares. There was also action southbound and Taseko Mines Ltd. (TKO) was among the more energetic retreaters, as it fell 23 cents to $8.21 on 3.24 million shares.
Tara Christie's Banyan Gold Corp. (BYN) added 2.5 cents to $1.12 on 2.26 million shares on new assays from the Powerline deposit on its AurMac project in east-central Yukon. A 66-metre interval graded 1.1 grams of gold per tonne at depth, aided by a 31.2-metre portion that returned 1.91 grams per tonne, with much of the gold sitting in a 7.6-metre zone running 3.79 grams per tonne. A second hole managed 1.37 grams per tonne over 30.8 metres, again with a high-grade subinterval. Several other holes also did well, also with high-grade intervals.
