New York spot gold leapt $84.10 to $4,592.90 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange added -- wow! -- 39.19 points to 1,091.37 while the TSX gold index rose 28.46 points to 925.20. Northbound lanes on the market turnpike were congested today as Canadian gold miners followed bullion. Aya Gold & Silver Inc. (AYA) leapt $2.57 to $23.95 on 3.22 million shares in silence, while Majestic Gold Corp. (MJS), mum since November, added three cents to 22 cents on 18.17 million shares.
Dan Barnholden's Luca Mining Corp. (LUCA) surged 14 cents to $1.58 on 1.45 million shares on assays from its Campo Morado mine in Guerrero, Mexico. The headline hit saw a 55.8-metre interval return 1.21 grams of gold and 53.24 grams of silver per tonne, along with 1.3 per cent copper, 3.58 per cent zinc and 0.48 per cent lead -- a metals smorgasbord with 5.9 grams of gold equivalent per tonne. The hit came from one of five new holes drilled from surface into the Reforma deposit.
