New York spot gold retreated Friday, dropping $21.90 to $4,573.40. The TSX Venture Exchange added 4.59 points to 1,091.13 while the TSX gold index fell 1.57 points to 940.47. Most Canadian gold miners moved lower today. SSR Mining Inc. (SSRM), silent since mid-November, dropped $1.38 to $31.81 on 3.62 million shares. Wheaton Precious Metals Corp. (WPM), mum since mid-December, added one cent to $188.28 on 1.73 million shares. There was light northbound traffic on the market today, but Orosur Mining Inc. (OMI) was speeding along: It added 5.5 cents to 54 cents on 594,000 shares with a silence spanning just two days.

Orvana Minerals Corp. (ORV) had a good day to end the week, adding 18 cents to $2.12 on 718,000 shares, but it had news prodding its advance. The company says its first quarter of fiscal 2026 was strong from both a production and an exploration perspective. Production topped 10,000 gold equivalent ounces, Orvana applauds, and exploration at its Taguas and Orovalle projects is going well. Further, the expansion of the Don Mario plant in Bolivia is poised to start handling stockpiled oxide ore.
