New York spot gold rebounded $105.20 Wednesday, taking a break at $4,982.20. The TSX Venture Exchange regained 29.74 points to 996.49 while the TSX gold index rebounded 26.64 points to 990.77. Most Canadian-listed gold miners recovered some lost ground today. Silver X Mining Corp. (AGX) rose four cents to 95 cents on 3.21 million shares, while Iamgold Corp. (IMG) rose 77 cents to $29.17 on 3.22 million shares. Not as buoyant was New Found Gold Corp. (NFG), which reclaimed five cents to $3.59 on 966,000 shares, and worse still was Capstone Copper Corp. (CS), which lost 81 cents to $14.10 on 27.56 million shares.
Yikes! Ronald Thiessen's Northern Dynasty Minerals Ltd. (NDM) crashed to an intraday low of $1.52, ending the day down $1.05 to $1.71 on 9.39 million shares. The tumble followed word that the United States Department of Justice filed its brief in Alaska Federal Court yesterday, apparently defending an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) veto of development at the company's Pebble project in southeastern Alaska.
